Research notes
This is a British design that has caused a lot of confusion over the years as to exactly what the 45 MP meant. It is now generally accepted that the correct name for this cartridge is the 45 Maxim Pistol and is based on the Nov 1885 patent design revolver by Hiram Maxim. (Erlmeier, Brandt Ref. 435).
