Research notes
The 45 Cowboy Special was designed specifically for the Cowboy Action Game and is a shortened version of the 45 Colt cartridge for use with low velocity lead bullets with minimal recoil. The shorter case of the 45 Cowboy Special make it an ideal cartridge over the larger capacity 45 round. The length is very much the same as the 45 Auto Rim, but the rim is substantially thinner the Auto Rim case. It is shorter also than the 45 Schofield round, which again has a rim that is incompatible for use in the rapid fire Cowboy games.
