Research notes
The 22 WCF was introduced by Winchester in 1885 for their Model 1885 falling-block rifle and was originally a black powder load. It was also called the .22 Winchester Single Shot and is dimensionally the same as the 22 Hornet, except for the bullet diameter being .228” where the 22 Hornet uses the .224” bullet. With the introduction of smokeless powder, the 22 WCF, although offering smokeless loads slowly faded and was replaced by the .22 Hornet, which was introduced by Winchester in 1932, leading to the 22 WCF being discontinued in 1935.
