Research notes
This is MB31 from Dixon. The relatively popular 8x42R MB Target case type exists in two non-interchangeable neck types, both listed by Egestorff - see also MB32. The Lorenz Type has a more gradual and higher shoulder. Introduced c1878 by Lorenz as case#33 and it was still listed in the DWM 1904 catalog. This was the commonest 8x42R MB case type and Roth produced an 8x42R MB type which matches this case type (case #341). Roth cases dated 1885 exist and also Lorenz "L" hs cases dated from 1878. These were probably factory made by the Lorenz company from case production originally intended for military use.
