Research notes
The 300 PRC was developed by Joe Thielen, who was the assistant director of engineering at Hornady when the 375 Ruger was launched in 2007. It is based on the 375 Ruger necked down with the shoulder moved slightly back and was originally called the 30-375 Ruger. The original design for this cartridge was based on the 8x68 case necked down, but the difficulty in obtaining brass prompted him to use the 375 Ruger case instead. The 300 PRC is becoming a very popular cartridge in the extreme long range shooting sports because of the ability to use a range of bullets from 165gr. all the way to 225gr, making it better suited than the 300 Win Mag.
