Research notes

For a time now the US Army has been searching for a Next Generation Squad Weapon System and during 2018 it supplied the specifications of what type of system they were looking for and invited the firearms industry to come up with the designs for a Squad Infantry Rifle as well as a Squad Automatic Rifle. This project was actively pursued by SIG-Sauer, and they came up with their .277 SIG FURY in 2019, a cartridge that was SAAMI approved in 2020 for pressures up to 80,000 psi, making it a formidable weapon.
